In device manager the audio speaker is assigned to Parallels device, as well the mic. Very strange, but it does point to the fragility of running Windows in a VM on Mac. AlexA4, May 8, 2016 #12. It is needless to talk about the importance of the microphone in your PC. Just think of all your meetings on Skype or Zoom and the like, and you already realize how much of a setback a nonfunctional microphone on your Windows 10 laptop is.
Nonfunctional Windows 10 microphones may not be a frequent occurrence, but there have been a few factors that have triggered this issue. One common culprit is when updates are not properly installed. It could also be a hardware issue, and in such case your technician may be the best bet in fixing it.
Here we will walk through steps to correct the nonfunctional microphone with steps and tweaks you can apply yourself.

1. Check Microphone Driver
For this mic issue and many other issues on the computer, it is highly recommended to first check drivers, as they may have malfunctioned or simply become outdated.
If you have a newly-installed Windows version and still have an outdated Microphone driver, then it is likely you will face problems of no sound, recording fails or a mute microphone.
To check the driver status, follow these steps:
1. In your Start menu search for “Device Manager.”
2. In the device manager window search for sound and expand it.
3. Once expanded, you should see your audio drivers. Note that the names of these will vary depending on the manufacturer. In my case, I have two called “Intel(R) Audio display” and “Realtek High Definition Audio” as shown in the image below.
4. On Intel(R) Display Audio, right-click and select properties. On the General tab, check to see if the device is working properly.
5. If it is not working properly, click on the driver tab and select the “update” option.
6. Repeat steps 4 and 5 for the other audio drivers.
7. Restart the computer and see if the microphone problem is fixed.

2. Check the Sounds setting
1. In the taskbar, right-click on the speaker icon at the far right corner and select the sound option.
2. On the “Recording” tab, click on the microphone and select the “Properties” option.
3. Select the levels tabs and increase the volume for both microphone and microphone boost.
4. Go to the “Enhancement” tab of the same pop-up, and make sure that the immediate mode checkbox is checked.
5. Click Ok and restart the computer.
3. Use Microphone in Windows settings![]()
1. Press Win + I keyboard shortcut to open the settings.
2. Click on the Privacy option, and on the left pane select “microphone.”
3. Turn on the switch for “allow apps to access my microphone.”
4. Speak to your laptop again to see if the internal microphone now works.
4. The sound troubleshooter
1. Right-click on the sound icon at the far-right corner of the taskbar and select “troubleshoot sound problems.”
2. The computer will detect any fault that exists with your audio and recommend fixes for you. You just need to read through the prompts and click the options that you think will work for you.
Conclusion
When your mic problems are caused by a non-mechanical factor, these fixes will usually work. It may also be wise to restart the computer after any fix you try, before deciding to move ahead to a new fix.
I have an that has a headphone/headset combo port.On OS X any headset works nicely (e.g. Not sure if people are still having a problem with this as it's been almost a year, but I was running into this problem with my Mac mini 2014 with Windows 10 Home and Bootcamp v6.0.The sound card is Cirrus Logic CS4208 (AB 108), and I couldn't get Windows to recognize the mic on my headset which was designed for iPhone/Apple usage. After not being able to find the driver for the CS4208 (AB 108) at a legitimate site on the net (results almost always required a 3rd party driver downloader - no thanks!), I went to Cirrus Logic's website and tried to search for another driver. I was able to find from their website, downloaded the zip file, and tried to update the CS4208 driver with files on this zip. The driver was taken, and, after a restart, the microphone now showed up (even though it was still showing CS4208 AB 108).
It works!I even rolled back the driver and updated again to confirm it works, and it sure does! I also have another 2016 MBP that I would like to test. Will update here after. Here's a few screenshots before the driver update to CS4207:And after updating the drivers and restart. It appears that:Hi there.
I've been monitoring and looking for a solution for this for sometime and it seems the latest version of bootcamp released today (Bootcamp 6.0) with Windows 10 fixes the problem.I had Windows 10 installed through bootcamp and updated to bootcamp 6 today (Aug 13). Surprisingly, I plugged in my iPhone headset (which is TRRS) and noticed windows installing some drivers.Headset is working just like it does in OSX now, awesome for VOIP or gaming. Very happy camper here!Should note that I am running Windows 10 with Bootcamp 6 on a late 2013 Retina Macbook Pro. If people are still having this issue in 2019 and have USB-C ports on their Mac, Apple's USB-C to 3.5mm adapter seems to fix this issue. While it doesn't work on macOS, it certainly allow you to use the microphone on Apple Earpods (and the in-line controls) and other headsets. The adapter is $9 in US and is mainly for iPad Pro 2018. I hope this helps, as it works perfectly for me!Or if you have an Xbox one controller with a 3.5mm jack (I'm not sure about ps4 controllers) you can use that as a USB sound card.
